Data Discs, a London-based studio dedicating their efforts to premium vinyl pressings of classic video game soundtracks, have been doing some amazing work of late. In August they released fresh pressings that covered the OSTs for Shenmue on the Dreamcast and Yuzo Koshiro’s excellent soundtrack for the original Streets of Rage title on the Sega Mega Drive.
The good news is that this nerdy love affair is set to continue, with the company announcing an imminent release of the OST for Shinobi III on vinyl, followed by Yu Suzuki’s Super Hang On in November. It gets better though, as it sounds like Streets of Rage 2 is coming out in 2016 and to say I’m super excited would be an understatement.
Another thing I love about their releases is how they’ve embraced the spirit of analogue media by featuring some amazing packaging and extending this all the way to the pressing itself. I’m a bit of sucker for this kind of thing, which may explain my love of Laserdiscs – such great ways to present artwork for the fans!
